It’s often repeated
To listen to your elders
But what if your elders talk emphatically of only wildly fantastical things?
Leprechauns and meritocracy
Unicorns and GDP
Loch Ness monsters and sustainability
Sasquatch and the global economy
Children should get to take the future’s face between both hands
Gaze into its eyes and kiss it deeply and fiercely, like a groom does his bride
But we’ve kidnapped their bride
Gang-raped her on Facebook live
Tied her hands with imperialist duct tape
And glazed her face with corporate cum
Then declared, “What’d you expect?
She had it coming!
With her curvy hips of standing volume
And bursting cleavage of acre-feet!”
It’s often repeated
To listen to your elders
But what do you do?
When ignorance and obfuscation
Lead your elders to tacitly assert “Fuck your future!
And fuck you too!”
